What counts as a duplicate
A statement is a duplicate when its file is byte-for-byte identical to a bank statement already on the same deal. In practice that’s the same file uploaded twice, whatever it’s called. These are not duplicates and upload normally:- the same month downloaded again from the bank, which usually produces a different file
- the same file on a different deal
- documents of other types, such as a voided check or a contract. Only bank statements are checked.
- a copy of a statement that was uploaded before September 10, 2026. Older uploads weren’t fingerprinted, so they can’t be compared.
What you see
- On the Documents tab: the upload fails with a message like “March.pdf” is already on this deal (same file). Delete it first if you meant to replace it. The name is the statement that’s already there.
- In the New Deal form: a message says how many statements didn’t upload. Everything else on the deal is created.
- In the merchant portal: the merchant is told the file is already on their application and there’s no need to upload it again.
- On the public application form: the duplicate file is skipped.
