# What happens if our subscription lapses?

> How your NextLevel MCA subscription works, what you see if it lapses, what's kept, and how to get access back.

Your NextLevel MCA subscription is billed through your CRM account. As long as that subscription is active (or in a trial), everyone on your team has full access. If a payment fails or the subscription is cancelled, access to NextLevel MCA is paused until billing is sorted out. Your data is never deleted.

<Note>
  Updating billing is done in your CRM by whoever manages your account's subscription, usually the owner.
</Note>

## What you'll see

Instead of the app, everyone on the account sees **Your subscription isn't active**:

> Access to NextLevel MCA is paused for this account. Update your billing in your CRM to restore it. Everything you've entered is kept and will be here when you're back.

The CRM itself may also pause the account when a payment is overdue.

## What's paused and what keeps working

| While access is paused | |
| - | - |
| The app, in the CRM and on the phone | Shows the notice above instead of your deals. |
| API keys, connected apps and the AI assistant connection | Refused with a message that the subscription isn't active. |
| CRM workflow actions from NextLevel MCA | Fail with "This NextLevel MCA subscription isn't active". |
| Background work | Reading lender replies from your mailboxes, sending submissions to lenders, bank statement analysis, DataMerch checks and syncing contacts to the CRM all stop. |
| Your application form and merchant portal | **Stay up.** Merchants can still apply and upload documents. |
| Your data | **Kept.** Deals, documents, lenders, offers, advances and commissions are all still there. |

A payment that's past due counts as not active, the same as a cancelled subscription.

## Getting access back

<Steps>
  <Step title="Update billing in your CRM">
    Pay the outstanding invoice or restart the subscription through your CRM account's billing.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait a little">
    NextLevel MCA checks your subscription status about once an hour, so it can take up to an hour to notice.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click I've updated billing, try again">
    On the notice, click **I've updated billing, try again** to reload. If you still see the notice, wait a few more minutes and try again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Everything is where you left it once access is back.

## Your plan and seats

Your plan decides how many team members can have access to NextLevel MCA. **Settings → Team** shows how many seats you're using, for example **3 of 6 seats used**. If you try to add someone past the limit you'll see **User limit reached** with a prompt to upgrade your plan. Upgrading is done through your CRM account's billing. See [Adding team members](/help/add-team-member).
