# How do I set a manager and their reps?

> Link reps to a manager so the manager sees their team's deals.

A manager sees their own deals, their reps' deals and unassigned deals. You decide who their reps are. Admins, or anyone with the **Manage Team** permission, do this in **Settings → Team → Members**.

Each rep has one manager at most. There are no named teams: a manager's team is simply the reps linked to them.

<Note>
  Only people with the **Manager** role can have reps, and only people with the **Rep** role can have a manager. Admins see everything, so they're never part of a team.
</Note>

You can link a manager and a rep from either side. Both edit the same link.

## From the manager

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the manager">
    In **Settings → Team → Members**, open the manager's **⋯** menu and click **Edit**. Their **Role** must be **Manager**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose their reps">
    Click **Reps they manage** and tick each rep. You can search by name. Only active reps are listed. A rep who already belongs to another manager shows **Managed by** and that manager's name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**. If you picked a rep who belongs to someone else, a note names who moves and from whom, and the button changes to **Save and move** with the number of reps. Click it again to confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Unticking a rep and saving removes them from this manager, leaving them with no manager.

## From the rep

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the rep">
    Open the rep's **⋯** menu and click **Edit**. Their **Role** must be **Rep**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick their Manager">
    Choose from the **Manager** dropdown, which lists everyone with the manager role. Pick **No manager** to take them off a team.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Click **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can also set these when you add someone: **Manager** for a new rep, or **Reps they manage** for a new manager. See [Adding team members](/help/add-team-member).

## What happens next

* The manager sees the rep's deals right away: deals where the rep is the originator or the closer. See [Who sees which deals](/help/record-visibility).
* The members list shows **Managed by** and the manager's name on each rep, and the rep count on each manager.
* A manager can assign deals to themselves and to their reps.
* A manager sees the Rep Commissions of their reps, as well as their own.
* If the manager has a **Manager override %**, they're paid it on top on deals their reps work. See [Manager overrides](/help/manager-overrides).

## When the team changes

* **Moving a rep** to another manager: the new manager sees their deals and the old one no longer does. Overrides on deals that already funded stay with the manager at the time.
* **Changing a manager to another role**, or removing them: all of their reps are left with no manager. Link those reps to someone else.
* **Changing a rep to another role** takes them off their manager's team.

## Common problems

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title=""No one has the manager role yet"">
    The **Manager** dropdown is empty until someone has the **Manager** role. Change a team member's role to **Manager** first. See [Roles](/help/roles).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A rep isn't in the Reps they manage list">
    Only active team members with the **Rep** role are listed. Check the person's role.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The manager still can't see a rep's deal">
    The rep must be the deal's originator or closer. Check who is assigned on the deal. Deals with nobody assigned show under **Unassigned** for managers.
